2025 CBA-GP Startup Bootcamp Officially Opens Its Second Season

On May 18, 2025, the CBA-GP Startup Bootcamp launched its second season with a
grand Opening Ceremony, titled founders, funders and future. The event was hosted by
CBA-GP and co-hosted by KPMG, took place in KPMG-Philadelphia building and
welcomed participants from across the global biopharma innovation ecosystem.

 The event was organized by the Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association – Greater
Philadelphia (CBA-GP), in collaboration with KPMG. CBA-GP President Dr. Qing Liang
opened the ceremony by expressing heartfelt thanks to attendees for joining on a
Sunday afternoon, and introduced the Bootcamp’s Organizing Committee of CBA-GP,
cohost KPMG, and bootcamp program partners. Rui Fan from KPMG, Principal and US-
China Corridor Lead at KPMG introduced the KPMG co-hosting team. Sun Lee, Principal-
in-Charge of the Pennsylvania Business Unit Tax Practice at KPMG, delivered remarks
on behalf of the co-host.

Dr. Qi Xia, Vice President of CBA-GP and the program Lead of the 2024 Bootcamp ,
reviewed the impactful activities and achievements of last year’s program through a
captivating video. Dr. Xiaolu Yang, Professor at the University of Pennsylvania
Perelman School of Medicine and CEO of Viteuron Inc., reflected on his 2024
experience, sharing how he was benefited from the program in terms of the training
program, networking and metoring. It is exciting that his company received its series A
funding last year to develop a novel therapy for neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr. Jin Liu, Vice President of CBA-GP and 2025
Bootcamp Lead, unveiled the agenda for the upcoming season. Building on camper feedback, high-impact workshops from 2024 will return, and new programs focused on business development and investigator-initiated clinical trials (IITs) will be introduced. To
commemorate CBA-GP’s 30th anniversary, a Biotech Startup Competition will take place on June 7 in Rockville, MD, with registration open until May 31. This year, over 40 venture capital firms will participate in Bootcamp-hosted roadshows and 1:1 investor-innovator matchmaking events.

CBA-GP President Dr. Qing Liang introduced the keynote speaker Dr. Kunwar Shailubhai, Founder and CEO of Nous Biosciences, who shared powerful insights on entrepreneurship sharing his personal success of leading two start-up biotech companies to IPO. President-elect Dr. Daniel Zhu welcomed Dr. Jerry Wang, Co-founder and CEO of AnHeart Therapeutics, who discussed his firsthand experience in drug development, shared a personal journey in how he founded AnHeart, stressing the importance in his entrepreneur success of reliable people, strategic timing, and seizing key value inflection points.

Bootcamp Vice President Dr. Holly Meng introduced Dr. Kathie Jordan, Managing Director at Ben Franklin Technology Partners, who offered guidance from an investor’s perspective in areas of how investors evaluate an investment, how founders prepare themselves to meet investors and what to do post investment. Chen Xin, representing Jiangsu Province, introduced four biopharma incubators located in the region.

The celebration concluded with a lively networking happy hour, featuring a Bootcamp-
themed cake, delicious refreshments, and an atmosphere rich in collaboration and
connection.

 Event Overview:

The 2025 CBA-GP Biomedical Science Symposium, the largest gathering of Chinese biomedical scientists in the Greater Philadelphia area, will be held on February 8, 2025, in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. This event is hosted by the Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association, USA–Greater Philadelphia (CBA-GP), with co-sponsorship from three major North American Chinese academic organizations: Chinese American Diabetes Association (CADA), Chinese American Liver Society (CALS), and Chinese American Academy of Cardiology (CAAC)

This symposium will feature 50 distinguished Chinese professors, including two members of the National Academy of Medicine28 full professors12 associate professors, and 10 assistant professors, representing 17 renowned universities and research institutes across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and Maryland. These include the University of PennsylvaniaTemple UniversityBlumberg InstituteRutgers UniversityNew York UniversityCornell UniversityColumbia UniversityCoriell InstituteThomas Jefferson UniversityDrexel UniversityVillanova University, and the University of Maryland, etc.

The symposium will cover cutting-edge advancements and translational research in various biomedical fields, including aging and neurosciencecardiovascular diseasescancermetabolic disorders, and infectious diseases. Many of the participating professors are also founders of biotech startups.

The event aims to foster collaboration across biomedical disciplines through academic presentations, panel discussions, and networking sessions. It seeks to explore breakthroughs in biopharmaceutical innovation and address key challenges in the field.

The symposium will take place at the historic The Baldwin School, located at 701 W Montgomery Ave, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010, United States. This iconic castle-style building offers an elegant and inspiring atmosphere, ideal for stimulating creativity and collaboration.

CBA-GP 2024 Summer BBQ:

A Resounding Success!

On July 21, 2024, the Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association-Greater Philadelphia (CBA-GP) hosted a vibrant summer barbecue at Norristown Farm Park. The event drew nearly 400 members and their families from Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. It was a joyous gathering filled with delicious food, lively conversations, and engaging activities, highlighting the strong community spirit within CBA-GP.

 Participants enjoyed a wide variety of grilled delicacies prepared by dedicated volunteers, who worked tirelessly to ensure everyone had a great time. In addition to the food, the event featured interactive games and music performances that had everyone singing and dancing. The energy was infectious, with participants of all ages joining in the fun.

CBA-GP leaders, including Founding President Dr. Ling Yang, Current President Dr. Qing Liang, and President-elect Dr. Yue Zhu, shared updates on the association’s activities and future plans. The event also included a raffle with exciting prizes, adding to the festive atmosphere.

This annual barbecue not only provided a much-needed break from work but also offered a valuable opportunity for networking and camaraderie among members. The event was a testament to CBA-GP’s growing influence and the strong bonds within its community.
