The Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association, USA – Greater Philadelphia (CBA-GP), successfully convened its inaugural annual meeting on October 15, 2023, in the outskirts of Philadelphia. The event drew an impressive gathering of nearly 400 attendees, comprising esteemed professors, enterprising individuals, and leading figures from the biopharmaceutical industry.

This milestone marked the first annual gathering of the association, centered around the theme of “Biopharmaceutical Innovation and Entrepreneurship.” The event was structured into six distinct segments: Keynote Session, Scientific Frontier and Drug Development, Buffet Lunch / Small Group Discussion, Poster Session of Scientific Frontier and Drug Development, Biotech Startup Pitch Competition, Dialogue to Entrepreneurs; all focusing on pivotal aspects within the realm of Biopharmaceutical area. These segments provided comprehensive insights and opportunities for interaction.

The conference commenced with an opening address by Dr. Ling Yang, the founding president of CBA-GP. Dr. Yang introduced the association’s activities and its current status since its inception, while also expressing anticipation of future challenges and opportunities. As an extension of CBA in the Greater Philadelphia area, CBA-GP has organized over ten online and offline events since its establishment earlier in the year, spanning diverse subjects such as career development, small business funding applications, and biotechnology entrepreneurship. The core team of CBA-GP comprises numerous academics and industry executives, sharing a common commitment to fostering biotechnological innovation, product incubation, commercial transformation, and strengthening connections between academia and industry. CBA-GP currently boasts nearly 3,000 members and has established strategic partnerships with numerous biotechnology companies and universities.

CBA Greater Philadelphia Chapter Opening Ceremony and Innovation Entrepreneurship Forum

The Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association, USA – Greater Philadelphia (CBA-GP) held its opening ceremony and innovation entrepreneurship forum on February 4th in the suburbs of Philadelphia. CBA is one of the largest professional technical associations between China and the United States, founded in 1995 and headquartered in Maryland as a non-profit organization. Its mission is to promote comprehensive exchange in the field of biopharmaceuticals between China and the United States. The establishment of CBA-GP aims to strengthen regional communication and collaboration, and to promote innovation, industry incubation, and commercialization of biotechnology. It will also enhance the depth of cooperation between the academic and industrial fields, and provide help and support for the career development of its members.

The inauguration ceremony was opened by the founder and President of CBA-GP, Ling Yang, who conveyed the association’s mission to the attendees and expressed sincere gratitude. The ceremony was honored by the presence of many government officials, Professors and entrepreneurs.

During the sumptuous luncheon, Dr. James Wilson, Dr. Patrick Lam, Dr. Yang Liu, Dr. Dajun Yang, Dr. Partick Lu, Dr. David Chang, Louis P. Kassa, Dr. Weidong Xiao, Dr. Susanne Wayne, Dr. Shuibing Chen, Dr. Yanming Du, Dr. Wenhui Hu, Dr. Zuyi Huang, and more than ten other academic and industrial experts sent their best wishes to the association and shared their views on the development of the industry and cutting-edge technologies. The association expressed its sincere thanks to the guests and friends who came from all over, as well as to the generous sponsors, including Morgan Lewis, OncoC4, EDETEK, Forecyte, Nikegen, Ubrigene, Morgan Stanley, Gator Bio, Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center, Sirnaomics Pharma, Ascentage Pharma, iCura Therapeutics, IntelixBio, Alliancepharma, ACTS, KPMG, and WuXi AppTec Advanced Therapies.

More than 150 people attended the opening ceremony, including eight CBA Presidents/Past Presidents, about 20 university professors, and more than 100 executives and leaders of biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Each participant wore a commemorative scarf presented by the association, and the red scarves added a festive atmosphere to the event. We look forward to the growth of the association, the development of the industry, and our next meeting in CBA-GP.

 

 

2022 CBA Appreciation Dinner圆满结束

2022年5月28日，美国华人生物医药科技协会（Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association, CBA）在Normandie Farm Restaurant成功举办了 ”2022 CBA Appreciation Dinner” 。

本次活动是自新冠疫情以来CBA的第一次大型线下聚会。宴会邀请了政府嘉宾、CBA董事会成员、CBA执行团队、志愿者、企业会员、合作公司和赞助公司，共有超过120人注册参加了此次聚会。还有不少朋友千里迢迢从外州赶来聚会，CBA新老朋友们在一起相谈甚欢，其乐融融！

在招待酒会和晚宴过后，举行了宴会嘉宾致辞，由海昶生物技术公司首席医学官，CBA副会长Dr. Angela Men主持。

首先由CBA会长Hansoh Bio肿瘤转化科学负责人Dr. Song Wu代表会长团队(Dr. Alex Lai (2020-2021), Dr. Hang Lu (2021-2022), Dr. Song Wu (2022-2023)) 致辞。Dr. Wu 回顾了2020年疫情发生后“CBA Is in Action”，先后安排了两次在中美两地的捐赠，组织了20多次科学讲座，给中美两地的科学家深入探讨Variant of Concern，疫苗和药物的开发提供了很好的平台。Dr. Wu重点感谢了CBA成员在困难的条件下，积极科学抗议，同时仍然活跃在中美两国之间铺路架桥，创新创业，为新技术，新方法，新产品造福各国大众做出贡献。他特别指出CBA前会长Dr. Shoubai Chao所共同创立的CanSino BIO 研发的疫苗，Convidecia (Ad5-nCoV) ，获得了WHO的紧急使用授权。为了方便中美两地的科学家创新研发不被疫情所阻挡，CBA的2021年的年会在杭州和马里兰先后举办，两次都是采取线上线下结合的形式。今年CBA的年会也将在广州和马里兰举办，仍然采取线上和线下结合的形式，以方便中美两地科学家们无障碍的沟通。最后，Dr. Wu向一贯支持CBA活动的政府和业界人士、义工和合作者表示由衷的感谢。

接下来是Deputy Secretary of Maryland State Mr. Luis Borunda先生代表州政府为CBA祝词。 Mr. Borunda 先生是一位成功的企业家，他是马里兰州历史上第一位担任副秘书长的西班牙裔。他是西班牙裔社区的领导者，倡导创业和教育。他说CBA在疫情大流行期间努力为中美和各地的医药界所做的努力和信息分享有目共睹。他非常欣赏CBA的合作分享精神并会继续给予CBA全力的支持。

随后是Maryland State Delegate Ms. Lily Qi给大家致辞。齐女士是代表马里兰州蒙哥马利县第 15 区的州代表。她目前担任Deputy Majority Whip, 以及商业监管小组委员会副主席。她为CBA在疫情间做出的成绩给予祝贺的同时也非常高兴看到越来越多的生物医药公司在马里兰州落户。在她的第一个任期内，她通过了支持生物和科技公司、先进制造和清洁能源创新的立法并为初创生物公司的早期临床实验提供申请资金项目。随着目前越来越多的中国医药公司在美国及全球研发巨大的进展，她坚信CBA必然起到越来越重要的桥梁作用！

然后是Montgomery County Executive Mr. Marc Elrich致辞。Mr. Elrich是现任蒙哥马利郡郡长，他在祝词中提出，他最自豪的职业成就是我们在应对新冠流行病方面取得的成功，其中也有CBA和各位科学家的贡献。依靠数据和科学，而不是政治和舆论，蒙哥马利县成为全国传播率较低和疫苗接种率较高的最佳县之一。他承诺会提供更多的实验室，为医药公司提供合适的工作场所并祝CBA继续发展壮大。

虽然Maryland State Senate Ms. Susan Lee由于个人原因未能到场参会。参议院办公室颁予 CBA 的工作成就奖已寄出。我们感谢Ms. Lee的支持，并希望她能早日康复！

接下来是CBA颁奖仪式，由NIH流行病学家CBA副会长Dr. Yingxi Chen主持。

第一个奖项是CBA 2022 Outstanding Achievements Award，由CBA会长Dr. Song Wu颁发给前美国劳工部财务总长，前财政部财务总长Mr. Samuel Mok，感谢他为华人社区做出的杰出贡献。Mr. Mok随后做了简短的主旨演讲。他提到五月是亚太裔传统月，亚太裔移民先驱为美国的发展作出巨大贡献。Mr. Mok还分享了自己在美近六十余载横跨联邦政府和公司企业界两大领域的生涯，他的分享诚恳真挚，引起了热烈的反响。

第二个奖项是CBA 2022 Excellent Service Awards，由CBA董事会秘书长Dr. Yali Fu和CBA前会长Dr. Alex Lai颁发给Dr. Edward Wang, Dr. George Chang, Dr. Xiaobin Lu, Dr. Yali Fu, Dr. Feiyan Jin和Dr. Yuling Wu，感谢他们为服务CBA做出的杰出贡献。

第三个奖项是CBA 2022 Outstanding Volunteer Awards，由CBA副会长Dr. Qing Li和执行团队秘书长Dr. You Li颁发给Dr. Jun Zhao, Mr. Jack Che, Dr. Xinquan Liu, Dr. Wenjuan Wang, Dr. Chunhong Liu，Mr. Wenlong Wang和Dr. Ru Chen，感谢他们为组织CBA各项活动所付出的辛勤劳动。

接下来第三部分是由CBA董事会秘书长Dr. Yali Fu宣布CBA候任会长 (2023-2024) 为阿斯利康全球监管事务高级总监Dr. Jingyu (Julia) Luan。随后Julia发表了就职感言。她表示，作为第一任有FDA工作经验的CBA会长，她既要做中美生物制药业界的桥梁，也要做中美生物制药业界和监管部门的桥梁。

然后是宴会的第四部分节目演出，由CBA候任会长 (2023-2024) Dr. Jingyu (Julia) Luan主持。首先是大华府男独唱艺术家Mr. Hongfa Chu为大家献上了三首脍炙人口的美声歌曲，深受好评。

然后是大华府女独唱艺术家Ms. Amy Tan为大家献上了动听的歌曲 “声声慢-吴侬软语版”。Amy的歌声温柔甜美，惊艳全场。

最后，CBA候任会长 (2023-2024) Dr. Jingyu (Julia) Luan发表了宴会结束致辞，之后大家互相攀谈，合影留念。此次活动大大增进了CBA朋友们之间的感情联络，除了志愿者团队的辛勤劳动，此次宴会也得到了CBA长期合作的赞助商以及合作伙伴们，尤其是百英生物Biointron的大力支持，在此表示诚挚的谢意！CBA将继续服务社区并进一步发挥中美生物制药领域的桥梁作用！

2022 CBA 职业发展论坛暨现场招聘会成功举办

2022年5月7日，一年一度期待已久的美国华人生物医药科技协会（Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association，CBA）职业发展论坛暨现场招聘会在Montgomery College, Rockville Campus, Science Center成功举行，圆满落下帷幕。

本次活动主题是“生物医药行业求职和准备”，采取了线下和线上同步直播的方式举行。活动得到了诸多生物医药公司的大力支持，有超过 15家公司来到现场招聘，CBA招聘平台上总共有26家公司提供了超过250个招聘职位；也邀请到了多位在生物医药领域深耕多年的职场前辈们，为大家呈现了精彩的报告，分享了宝贵的建议和忠告；尽管春雨淅沥，大家热情不减，现场和在线将近300人参加，报告厅座无虚席，现场招聘会场面火爆，参会者都表示收获颇丰。

活动在报到和早餐过后，以CBA会长 (2022-2023) Hansoh Bio转化医学负责人Dr. Song Wu的演讲作为开场，为大家介绍了CBA的组织现状，历年的职业发展论坛， 新的CBA招聘平台，以及2022年活动安排。

第一部分“职业发展论坛”由EQRx公司项目执行副总裁Dr. You Li主持。

首先是信达生物免疫研究副总裁Dr. Yue Wang为大家做了演讲 “From Lab Bench to Research Leader” 。Dr. Wang讲述了自己从博士，博士后，到医药公司科学家，再到医药公司研究部门副总裁的成长经历和感悟；介绍了为什么从科研界转到工业界，怎样找到一份生物医药公司的工作，怎样成为一名成功的实验科学家，以及走向职场领导者和职业发展的技巧。

接下来是CBMG公司技术高级副总裁Dr. Xu-Rong Jiang带来的 “Career Path in Biopharmaceutical Development” 为主题的讲座 。Dr. Jiang谈到了自己的职业发展历程，介绍了生物医药的技术研发到临床实验的过程，细胞治疗的技术、生产和质控，发展前景和挑战；并阐述了生物医药职业发展的机会和策略，求职者需要具备的最重要的技能和素质。

随后是曾在FDA工作十多年，现担任海昶生物技术公司首席医学官的Dr. Angela Men为大家讲述了 “How to Prepare Well for an Agency’s Interview” 。Dr. Men结合自己多年FDA的工作经验，给大家讲述了医药监管机构工作职位的优势和发展机会，准备面试的技巧，并给予了诸多宝贵的建议。

然后RNAimmune创始人和首席执行官Dr. Dong Shen给大家带来了精彩演讲 “From Scientist to Entrepreneur” 。Dr. Shen介绍了自己从医生，博士，博士后，生物医药公司科学家、领导者，再到创办自己的生物医药公司的丰富经历，给求职者和创业者分享了求职创业的经验，提出了宝贵的建议和忠告；随后介绍了RNAimmune的优势，RNA疫苗技术，公司管线，研发进展，公司的团队和发展。

最后是国际知识产权律师事务所Finnegan的Dr. Yieyie Yang为大家讲述了 “How to Find a Suitable and Promising Career Pathway by Combining Your Strength and Interest” 。Dr. Yang分享了自己从科研界转到知识产权法律工作的经验和心路历程；介绍了知识产权法律职业发展路径，技能要求，工作节奏，与科学界的联系和不同，以及取得成功的关键。

中场休息过后是活动的第二部分“CBA职业招聘平台和招聘公司的介绍”，由流行病学家NIH-CSSA主席Dr. Yingxi Chen主持。

首先由CBA数字推广总监Dr. Jun Zhao介绍了今年创办的CBA职业招聘平台。Dr. Zhao提到了CBA的主要任务是作为中美生物医药发展的桥梁，而CBA职业招聘平台能够为中美生物医药公司提供最好的人才，也为公司和人才搭建了一座重要的桥梁。目前CBA的网站https://cba-use.org首页上的职位中心已经有超过250个开放的职位，求职者可在该平台上提交简历，推广自己；也可以通过公司职位链接提交简历。

然后多家生物医药公司的HR和管理人员分别介绍了自己公司的概况、福利、团队建设和招聘信息，包括Sirnaomics，RNAimmune，Hansoh Bio/Hansoh Phama，CBMG（Cellular Biomedicine Group Inc），Zhenge Biotech，OncoC4，以及Horizon Therapeutics。

接下来是活动的两个同时进行的第三部分“专家面对面互动”和第四部分“现场招聘会”。专家面对面活动由阿斯利康全球监管事务高级总监Dr. Jingyu (Julia) Luan主持。Horizon Therapeutics分析科学部门高级总监Dr. Jihong Wang和五位演讲嘉宾加入到了论坛嘉宾的行列。现场的职场专家回答了线上线下的各种问题，为求职者和创业者分享了宝贵的建议和忠告。

现场招聘会由Hansoh Bio副总监Dr. Qing Li主持。现场招聘会为公司提供了很好的吸引人才的机会，并为求职者提供了跟公司HR和管理人员面对面交谈的机会。招聘现场火爆，参会者交谈甚欢，既有参会者之间的交流，又有公司和求职者之间的相互了解，都表示收获颇丰。

CBA/CCRA 3D Printing in Pharmaceutical Development Seminar Concluded Successfully

May, 22, Sunday, CBA and its CCRA group lit on the summer heat with a hotter-than-ever webinar on 3D Printings in Pharmaceutical Development: History, Current Landscape, and the Future. This webinar brought together the leading experts and forerunners on Pharmaceutical 3D printing from the US, Europe, and China.

The webinar started with warm welcome from the current CBA Vice President/CCRA Group Lead Dr. Angela Zeng. She then introduced the history, mission, and past/current activities of CBA/ CCRA and encouraged interested attendees to join the group.

Professor Xiaoling Li kicked off the lecture with his talk entitled “Melt Extrusion Deposition (MED) 3D Printing: An emerging Technology for Pharmaceutical Applications”. He first gave an overview of different technologies currently employed in 3D printing of pharmaceuticals. He further elaborated the technical details of MED and its advantage and utilization in precise control of drug release profiles. He concluded his talk with a few case studies from his company, which received FDA IND clearance (or in the process) to test in clinical studies. Dr. Li is the chief scientific officer and co-founder of Triastek. With decades of experience in drug delivery, Dr. Li also holds the tenure as Professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of the Pacific. 

Dr. Alvaro Goyanes Goyanes, the CEO and co-founder of FabRx and honorary lecturer at the University College London (UK) and University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) pitched his talk, entitled “3D Printing of Personalized Medicines” from a different perspective and focused on the advantages of 3D printing in the field of personalized medicines. In his talk, Dr. Goyanes demonstrated the 3D printing platform M3DIMAKER™ and how it was used to create personalized medicines to assistant the needs from special populations such as pediatric patients and cancer patients. He further discussed about the pros and cons of personalized medicine in a pharmacy/clinical setting.

The last lecture was given Dr. Michael Gosselin, the VP of Pharmaceutical Development at Aprecia, USA. Dr. Gosselin, with years of experience in pharmaceutical development and manufacturing operations, shared with the audience the story behind Spritam® at Aprecia, the first ever 3D printed tablet approved by the FDA. He further introduced how the 3 product platforms (Open Bed ZipDose, In-Blister ZipDose and Open Bed ZipCup)- are being used to leveragefor novel dosage forms  at Aprecia. Dr. Gosselin concluded his talk with a brief introduction of next generation of 3D-printing process and system.

The talks were well received and elicited a heated round of questions, comments, and discussions among the speakers and panelists including former FDA reviewer, current 3D-Medicine COO Dr. Shen Xiao, and BLA Regulatory Founder and Chief Consultant, Dr. Frank Li. Dr. Angela Zeng led the discussion and speakers addressed questions from audience. Specifically, the experts discussed the technical challenges and regulatory pathways for 3D printing, the differences and similarity of regulatory strategy in Europe and the US. Questions from audience also covered details on the API, the possibility of applying 3D-printing to any mAb or mRNA product, the efficiency of 3D-printing technology in manufacturing etc.

The committee concluded the webinar with addressing the advantages and disadvantages of 3D-printing technology when comparing with conventional manufacturing methods, then acknowledged those difficulties and solutions within the technology itself and challenges lie in future directions to bring the new process to the regulatory approval. Post-meeting feedback from attendees stated this seminar is of pharmaceutical professionals’ interest and has demonstrated the scientific vision and attitude of CBA.
